High - Tea @ WOOBAR, W Hotel

Been wanting to try out the high-tea set at W Hotel for the longest time.

Located in Sentosa Cove, W Hotel is one of the newest hotel to open its doors in Singapore this year. Since then, the "DROP THE T2" high-tea set from it's lounge bar, WOOBAR, had been making waves through the little sunny island.

Eager to bring Mum and Dad to explore Sentosa Cove while showing them the free drive-in access into Sentosa with my Islander Card, I made a date with them since Dad was not working.

Tea menu

The wide selection of TWG Tea is free-flow from 3pm to 5pm. Apart from that, you can choose from a variety of coffee such as the usuals Cappuccino and Lattes.

A variety of sweets

There was even a variety of sweetness for your drink: brown sugar, fine sugar, honey etc.

As the high-tea set was for 2 person, I ordered an extra drink for myself while sharing the set with Mum and Dad.

My choice of drink is always Hot Chocolate.

Hot Chocolate

It is hard to find a place with Hot Chocolate that has the right amount of milk and cocoa powder. And WOOBAR is one place where the Hot Chocolate is just average.

The set was served as soon as the drinks were served. Service was fast.

Getting Sandwiched

From left:
  • Grey Shrimp Brioche Classic Cocktail  - just shrimp with sandwich
  • Rich Baked Gruyere Tart Thyme Tomato Jelly - tasted like pizza in a tart. I like!
  • Smoked Salmon Profiteroles Cream Faiche and Chives - just salmon with sandwich
  • Foie Gras Ganache Tart Pot Wine, Gold Leaf - interesting mix of foie gras with pot wine.

Decorative bird cage

From Top:
  • Pistachio and Chocolate Macaroons - average tasting macaroons, not the Laduree standard
  • Cranberry and Chocolate Scones with Passion Fruit Curd, Clotted Cream - I love scones, I love cream. Not the best, but it was rather nice.
  • Metallic W LCM's
  • Chocolate and Coconut Sponge Fresh Cream - reminded me of a cake I had in Gold Coast Australia!
  • Passion fruit Meringue (Clotted Cream and Mango) - I still prefer my chocolate marshmallow meringue from Antoinette
  • Vanilla Cream Slice Crisp Pastry
  • Baked Custard Tart Cinnamon Dust

Overall, though the high-tea set was rather average, it is worth the price for the free-flow of drinks and the beautiful scenery.

I love bringing my parents out (of Jurong) to "see the world"!

Mum & Dad joining in the cam-whoring!

Details:

The glamorous high-tea experience at WOOBAR happens daily from 3-5pm that features an exquisite selection of Dilmah’ s finest tea and savory delights served up in a silver bird cage with a whimsical touch. Priced at SGD$58++ for two persons (Weekend SGD68++).

HIS Ah Gong's Birthday

I love joining his family for dinners. Their gatherings gives me the warmth that I do not get from my paternal side since Dad's side is rather small and we are the only grandchildren that my grandparents have.

This year, his Ah Gong's birthday is a special one because Mum and Dad went along for the dinner. I love the idea of the in-laws hanging out together. Isn't that what a marriage should be about: the bringing together of 2 families.

Can't wait when we have a little one to get both families more involved in each others' lives!

Early Father's Day dinner

Father's Day came early this year when the brother has dinner with his GF on Saturday while the hubby is working on Sunday itself.

Decided to bring the family to Prive Grill after our previous awesome experience with them on my birthday.
It was a quiet fine-dining restaurant which was perfect for Dad who hates the crowd.

With the family, we got to try more food even though we ordered our usual.

Overall, the experience was disappointing this time:

Our bottom barely touched the chair when the Prive hostess rudely interrupted us to insist that she needed to move us to the outdoor seating to hide us from the other guests as we were inappropriately dressed. As we tried to understand the situation from her, she rudely ignored us while making her stand firmly. We were angered by her attitude and the way she convey her message as she seemingly despised us by our casual dressing in a fine-dining restaurant. To make matters worst, the restaurant was not even full for the night and we were not there on any sort of discount. We were full -paying guest. Thankfully, the Prive Grill manager stepped in to dissolve the tension by allowing our group to stay put in our seats while apologizing profusely for the mistake by his team.

The only other complaint was the doneness of the steak. Ordered medium steak, yet it came medium raw. After it was sent back to us, it came back well-done.

Apart from that, it was a great dinner afterall as Dad was able to enjoy his dinner while calling his supplier mid-way without running off to the car as the restaurant was quiet enough. And I was super happy to bring my Dad to "see the world" at an atas-dining place instead of always having his usual zi-char.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS 02 - Family

Just realised that I didn't have photos to yesterday's Birthday Celebration with Kexin and Taoli, nor any with the 802 brothers and sisters that I met for supper. Oh well, photos the next time we meet then.

Dinner today was something I look forward to for the main reason of it being at Shangri-La The Line. The buffet place that I love for it's many nice food at an affordable price.

Not much photos to blog about since I was using my Instax Camera most of the time so that I can demand that each person write me birthday wishes on the photos to keep. But still I love the ugly photo with my Brothers.

Yes, it runs in the family that we love to make irritating faces in photos.

The only decent photo I had was with my favourite little girl

She really isn't a little girl, but I will never forget her as that long-hair little sister that I brought to the zoo a decade ago. (I feel so old saying that!)

Present of the evening was from Derek's GF: Grace.

Wonder how she knows that I'm a bracelet person.

After today's episode of bringing Grandpa to the A&E, I decided to cancel on Bangkok during my birthday as I want to be around for the family at this period. Though nothing major happened, but it would be good to be on standby at home rather than out of the country.

Quite sad to be spending my birthday on this sunny island, but time with loved ones are precious these days. Overseas adventures can always wait but not moments with grandparents. Anyway, I'm sure that my birthday will be filled with love showered by friends!

On a happier note, I can fit into that knee-length pants which I used to wear when I was 20 years old!

Mum commented that I looked really skinny these days. Perhaps all this is taking a toll on my weight, but I am not complaining as long as I am healthy and I can look pretty in a wedding gown.

Mum turns 51

Brought the family to Contemporary Melting Pot & Bar at Block 7 Dempsey Hill for Mum's birthday dinner.

Having been there twice in 2011, I had quite a good impression of the place for the food served and nice ambiance. What I forgot was that there was a live-band!

As it was quite noisy with another big group there for drinks, Mum and Dad were quite grouchy as the live-band prepared to start on their 1st set for the night. But when the band started playing songs from the 90s, I could see how they enjoyed the music while having their food.

Apart from enjoying the band, the food was quite good with a reasonably huge portion.

We ordered the following:

1. Pork Belly Salad

2. Chicken Wings

3. Oysters

4. Rack of Lamb

5. Half -Half pizza - Wagyu beef and Salami

6. Wild Truffle Mushroom pasta

7. Wagyu Burger

Overall, it was an enjoyable dinner with the family...

Dad even had fun recalling how he used to ride a scooter, using the deco of the restaurant.

In case you are wondering what was that about, Dad was teaching us how people of his time used to ride the scooter to get it to go faster.

This is just too painful to watch.

Yet I must be strong.

Dressing up to hide the horrible feeling inside:

It's really hard to smile and pretend everything is fine, just so that your loved ones will not be worried.
It's even harder to be strong at this moment but you know you have to, because the ones who once cared for you need your care now.

Blissful Saturday...

Wedding site inspection this afternoon for 1 of the 2 locations we shortlisted.

More about it in our upcoming Wedding blog.

Since we were in Orchard area for the day, we headed in search of a place for tea. But Saturdays really isn't a good day to be in the crowded Orchard shopping malls. Everywhere had a queue!

We finally found a place with not much of a queue:

That fries with the beef stew dip... was AWESOME!

But not as awesome as the simple dinner we had with MY parents & HIS Grandpa & HIS mum.
The whole dinner was so heart-warming, I almost cried especially when Dad put his arms around HIS Grandpa like some long-lost buddies as they walked.

Home early again. Which gives me the time to finally sit down and take a good look at the photos taken in the past monthS.

Looking at the photos from the past 2 months made me realise that time really flies. Did so much already happened in that 2 months? Geesh... Life. Here's 2months in brief:

JANUARY

8 January 2011
I love outings like this. Just the 5 of us, loittering around, enjoying one another's company.
Times like this is rare, and will get more rare.

9 January 2011
It's not everyday I get to take photos with the giants. Yet they always turn away when the shutter click.

At least they didn't spoil it with Shawn.

The 1st photos of the BROTHERS.
Like really!

And our 1st family photo for the year.

Someone is missing a half.

We like random dates.
